The other day something very interesting happened in our area. A man sentenced life term for murdering another was released
from Jail after the term of punishment.We all know
Krishnan was a good man.He was a head load worker. He worked not only during the day.At night also he was ready to do some silly works like taking a sick man to Hospital or killing a Cobra that crawled into a layman''s hut etc.For such services he did''nt charged anything.
He was in total a very serious man with a long moustache.Nobody in our village has ever seen him smiling.People say that he was an orphan and was brought to the village at young age by a Grandppa who lived then. I have not seen the Grandppa.
After much compulsion Krishnan submitted to the demand of the village folk to marry a lady.He married Sathi.As I was staying in the town to pursue my studies I was not much in contact with the villagers.People say Sathi was not happy with the
marriage and she was in love with another chap.Even after the marriage Sathi secretly continued the relation.( in our area, dear folks, a lady or a man for that matter ,having two or three sex partners is a serious offence. If he or she is married it is still serious. It is considered as beastly).One day krishnan caught Sathi and the other chap red-handed and in a fist of rage cut his throat with his knife.. Sathi somehow escaped.
I met krishnan. 8 years jail life had completely carved out his health.Still people feared Krishnan and tried to get away from him. I have seen him wandering here and there for two three days. I gave him some money also. Then one fine morning I heard the news that Krishnan tried to commit suicide, but did not succeed in the attempt.He was hanging himsef. But the rope piece he hanged somehow broke and he fell down and broke his hip-bone.
He was admitted in the Hospital with two policemen put in special duty to guard him.Poor man ,it was better for him to die! Some how if he recovers, he will again be sentenced because suicide attempt is a crime as per our Penal Code.People don''t even allow one to die a peaceful death. Krishnan, you should have taken a better rope!
My dear friends who is determining the right and wrong? Based on certain written rules and evidences one man declares another as guilty.We all blindly forget whatever good he has done to the world.But think, we are all human beings, the lesser mortals
