I titled this essay do you have a clue,Because That is what I say to myself everytime someone cuts me off or they
slam on thier brakes in front of me.I am a Truck driver,and have been driving for the past 35 years accident free, I cannot believe that some peoples driving habits would permit them to think that they will not be hurt or do they think I got away with it yesterday,I often wonder are we a target for a easy insurance claim, Or do people just don`t care anymore,I have noticed a trend in the past years of driving,They seem not to care about themselves or me,and always in a hurry.
I have tried to talk and ask the DMV to upgrade ther driving manuels and teach the public more about trucks and other pernient info,but with no responce,I don`t believe that all accidents with trucks are the
truckers fault the insurance surveys show that 82 % of the accidents involved are the cars fault,I am not trying to pick on the cars or the trucks,I would love to see the public educated about trucks and the difficulties of
traveling the roads of this beautiful country.
There are some things about trucks and driving rules that I would like to pass on to the public that might help in wondering why these trucks do what they do.
1.Do you know that 60% of the trucks traveling on the us highways today have governors on them which depending on the trucking companys rules,They can only reach speeds up to 63-72 mph only.
2.Do you know that trucks when climbing inclines will reduce in speed,and when going down hill they will increase in speed,That is why momentum is a drivers best asset on the road.
3.So when you see a truck building in speed he is trying to build up momentum,it saves on fuel and time so everytime we hit the brakes it takes a mile to build up speed again,
4.With todays trucks we have sensors on the front of them that sence when we are tailgating that will send a alert to the company,and electrictronic logs and everything is captured or logged in a computer,we have no defence when it comes to us being at fault,it is harder than ever to get a cdl todat unless you can get a illegal one which is what is going on today,
These are just a few of the statements i would like to aknowledge to the public to help us and you the public.
