The Supreme Court of the Philippines regarded as the last bastion of justice in the country and the highest court in the land is now embroiled in a supposed scandal involving one of its seating justices.
It was published in two newspapers here in the Philippines that Supreme Court Associate Justice Consuelo Ynares-Santiago received an amount for a favorable look into a case that was being review by the high court. Specifically the amount was reported to be 10 million pesos payoff.
The concerned justice denies it and said that this may be a tactic to influence the magistrates of the high court for a favorable decision. The case is reported to be a land dispute case.
