why some campaigns die

Article Abstract by: mikecahill

Is it having the right look or saying something in just that special way making a candidate stand out from the rest?
Lamarr Alexander sported a red plaid shirt to show his down home attitude. He died off early in the race. Howard Dean appeared to be overly enthisuatic and suffered a similar fate. Does rolling up ones sleeve while stumping for votes help or do they prefer the professional look of a suit and tie? Maybe serving food at a cook out or helping in the soup kitchen amkes a difference. These are examples of not why a campaign dies. It falls off because too many candidates believe they are the proper candidate to fill then offfice and their ego won''t hear anything else.
The name of the country is unimportant because it happens everywhere a democracy exists and is thriving. Dozens line up for a job with jus one opening available. Here in the United States a major problem for all those running is Money. It costs in the millions to run a successful campaign now. Televsion ads, newspaper ads, and radio are all required avenues of getting out the message.
Transportation and hotels eat up a budget also. Staffers need a place to work and these buildings are not free. Telephone lines, office supplies, the list goes on. It takes a great deal of money to be elected to a position that pays a fraction of the cost it tkaes to get it.
Three blogs would be filled up before all the expenses were named . The main point is not every candidate has the charisma to pull it off. So the image consultants come in. Any bloopers made in previous terms or campaigns have to be cleaned up. God forbid the most popular candidate has a blemish on his or her record.
Whatever the office or location on the globe running for any political office should be an experience beneficial to both the candidate and the voter. Those choosing their leaders should be given an ample variety of qualified persons regardless of race, creed , or the size of their bank accounts. Far too many good persons fall prey to failed campaigns only because they run out of money. And too many unqualified ones win by having enough to keep going.
Here in the United States conventions are held where the most popular man or woman is selected to run. In layman''s terms  it means the person the powers to be in the party consider the best choice to win the election for their party. In other parts of the world simliar elections are held with the same results.
Will this system ever change? Will it ever be that we really get to express our votes and get the right person? Maybe yes, but most likely no.
