Both notions of
conformity and self-reliance are complete nonsense, and each are the result of bigotry. Thoreau and Emerson were self-reliant in that they were able to write heartfelt emotional statements and live on their own opinions while writing essays that posed statements that were merely annoying and controversial but without purpose and completely lacking in solutions to the problems they wrote about. They thought themselves smart, and that they were perfectly attuned with themselves. They thought their "souls" were leading them through life. All they really wanted was a way to justify their way of life. The real definition of Self-Reliance is to feel pressured to justify a different life from that of others by a reclusive stance.
Conformity is equal to self-reliance in that it is the result of Bigotry. Those who enforce conformity on others are the flip-side of a non-conformist. They are those who seek to justify their way of life by forcing "the multitude" to conform to their way of life. They are prejudiced against any imagination or creativity that is not their own.
Conformists limit the population in every way, down to the most secret thought. Everything is affected by the conformists views. Gays for example. As of now, the conformist''s view would be to oppose gays as scum and the "slime of the earth." This is horrendous. This is not even true. It is because they are not in conformance with the "trend", that they are so violently opposed. The correct view or attitude towards gays should be the exact same as the attitude towards heterosexuals. They should have the same rights as heterosexuals. Marriage is not a right and it is not "segregation" to not allow gays to marry. However, the "Don''t Ask, Don''t Tell" policy of the Military is just open abuse and segregation. Gays are as human as the next man and should be treated as such. Conformists need to become human and loose their bigoted views on life.
I am neither a non-conformist nor a conformist. I am myself, and I live life with the happiness of others as my goal. The government of the United States needs to be taken and shoved into the darkest hole possible. The United States has lost its uniqueness, no longer are we the "Hope of the World." We have become the "Nasty Big Brother", that seeks to conform the rest of the world to our standards. We are not in Iraq to genuinely help it, we are there to conform it to our standards. We are in the middle east to begin the eradication of the "non-conformists." The radical groups that live over there and continually fight among each other are going to be eradicated by the United States. Iraq is the "innocent" first step in a major scheme for the conformance of the whole world under one standard. The reason Christians are no longer targeted by the conformists, is because the majority of them have become liberal and no longer stand for anything, but accept anything and everything. The middle-east is the last "stumbling-block" for world conformity, and is in the process of being eradicated. No it is not good that the middle-east is in constant turmoil, and bloodshed is continual, but at least it shows that on this earth there are still people that hold true to their beliefs. America needs to wake up to the reality they are slaves to their government and rid themselves of this "puppet-government" and bring back the old and true United States.
Ron Paul is America''s one and only hope. If he is not elected president, then I personally will set out to wake up the American people, and show them the scam their government has become. I am going to change this world into a better placing with America, my dear country. I would gladly die a dozen times if it would ensure that America would wake up renewed in its old strength, that Old Glory would be raised high and be known as a symbol of a country that has done its duty and service to the world.
