ynetnews.com reports:As Israeli President Ehud Olmert moots the possibility of compromise on the status of East Jerusalem,
which would mean that up to 250,000 Palestinians would become citizens of a Palestinian state, there has been a huge upsurge amongst the Palestinian population in applying for Israeli
citizenship.Palestinian Jerusalemites, who are not Israeli Citizens still enjoy the rights of Permanent Residents and receive $770 per month from the Israeli Government.Fearing a loss of these rights and the stipend as well as being cut off from their workplace (many work within Israel),
thousands have applied for citizenship. Others fear that where a spouse does not have Resident status, the family may be split.
