.
It is really not only surprising but praiseworthy too that CPM has agreed to discussion on Nandigram issue in the Parliament after resisting the same for two days in the Parliament.
CPM by accepting the challenge of BJP and other protestors on Nandigram issue, has made it crystal clear that they had not traded with Congress Party on nuclear deal as alleged by various media men and intellectuals as also some political parties.
When they had allowed Congress Party to go ahead on nuclear deal and have talks with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA ) countries on the issue (of course final outcome will be submitted to CPM for their stamping) ,media and other political parties had alleged that CPM had a secret understanding or compromise with Congress Party that each one will be supporting other one in the Parliament , Congress will support CPM on Nandigram matter while CPM will allow Congress Party to continue with process of dialogue and negotiation with IAEA .
It is a matter of pleasure that the issue of Nandigram will be discussed in the Parliament at length. And I hope very soon there will be discussion on nuclear deal too in the Parliament. It is different that discussion on Nandigram will hardly precipitate any solution to the core issue of allowing special economic zone in the state because CPM is adament and will remain so on the issue. Similarly Congress Party will hardly budge an inch from its pre-decided stand on nuclear deal.
At least the opposing parties will be able to present their point of view and the country will watch the events connected and consequent to debate. After all Parliament is meant for debate and discussion on the issue and any political party should not have any hesitation in participating in discussion at least on the issue which may make or mar the fate of the country.
Now it is the duty of BJP, Trinamool Congress, RSP, Ms Medha Patekar and other stalwarts who led the movement in the village of Nandigram in West Bengal to exhibit their stand forcefully in the Parliament and try to convince CPM and the Nation at large that firing at Nandigram was unconstitutional and unwarranted. They should submit concrete solution to the issue of Special Economic Zone which ahs been the root of dispute there. If there is consensus on SEZ, they should also say categorically define the process of land acquisition for the purpose.
It is open secret that large scale corruption takes place in the process of land acquisition. In want of adequate transparency poor villagers are cheated by officials of the government. Not only have these, even musclemen of various political parties had a great say and mischievous role in cheating the villagers and poor farmers.
The real fight is not on the subject which appears to general mass through print or TV media. As a matter of fact, real fight starts when any one political party tries to take away the entire cream in the process singularly and depriving other local goondas /political groups the benefits of the opportunity.
Whenever any fund is allotted for development, any subsidy is released, any relief is sanctioned, the money hardly reaches in the hands of targeted groups but lion’s share of the same reaches in the hands of political workers/musclemen/middlemen/brokers/agents/mafia men/political workers/ goondas and transmitted to MLA’s and MP’s in a systematic way. When villagers in this process are cheated they are instigated by those who were not beneficial in the opportunity. Real fight is not for the benefit to villagers but for sharing the illegal money.
Let us see how this issue is resolved during the debate on the events which took place at Nandigram.Of course the outcome will have far reaching repercussions on other similar issues. Even the issue of SEZ in Andhra Pradesh will come for discussion and the same has the potential to divert the attention of the Parliament to altogether other subject. Let us hope the best however.
