January of 2009 the United States will have a new
president. It is still unclear who that
person will be. Whomever the person may be they will be faced with a major threshold to pass
called the Iraq War. The Vietnam Conflict began in 1959 in all actuality. So called trainers went there acting as advisers. That particular war or conflict, pick which ever name you choose, lasted until 1975. The way it ended was a disgrace.
Troops wre left behind without proper supplies, equipment, or back up. We can not allow the war in Iraq to end in similar fashion. This is why the most important issue is not that political football called social security. Yes, health care for all americans is vital, but we have over a hundred plus thousand men and women fighting for thier
lives on a daily basis. Bringing them home in reasonable manner is and should be the primary goal of every candidate of all parties.
Some scream for immediate withdrawal. Others claim a gradual
cut back is the answer. It is the time now for both sides to sit down and come to some type of sane agreement not based on what sounds good to the
voters.
Our men and women deserve the utmost amount of respect and gratitude. They gave freely of themselves to preserve democracy. Perhaps the president was wrong in sending them there. Maybe he was not. The bottom line is congress agreed with him at the time and orders were cut. Families lost loved ones. As the saying goes, "the die is cast". All options are over. If now is the time to retreat,
let it be with honor and dignity, We do not need another fiasco like Vietnam.
I for one person would not care for the tasks facing the next president of the United States of America. As Harry Truman''s desk plaque read, "the buck stops here". Forget the hype of political ads. Enough has already been made. What will happen at the polls November of 2008 is still a mystery. Let''s pray the voters make the right decision. Too many good lives depend on it.
