The Scotland Yard
investigation team was here to determine the cause of death of Benazir Bhutto, said a working arrangement
agreement released by the Ministry of Interior here on Saturday.
The
agreement was finalised between the Pakistani law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) and the Metropolitan Police Service team of the Scotland Yard.
The agreement said: "At the request of the Pakistan government, the New Scotland Yard''s Counter Terrorism Command (SO-15) is deploying a team of
investigation to support the Pakistani law-enforcement agencies responsible for investigating the death of Benazir Bhutto."
"The principal purpose of the SO-15 deployment is to assist the local authorities in providing clarity regarding the precise cause of Ms Bhutto''s death," it further said.
"The team will provide forensic expertise and other investigative assistance as appears appropriate to senior officer Detective Superintendent MacBrayne who will lead the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) team," it added.
"The MPS officers will assist and report to the Pakistani senior investigators. The primacy and responsibility for the investigation remains with the Pakistani authorities," it said, adding: "The MPS team will consist of experts in the areas of crime scene investigation, forensics, and evidence analysis."
