THE FIRST AMENDMENT, FREE SPEECH OR FREEDOM TO INFLUENCE EVIL?

Article Abstract by: artistjay

Original Author: JEREMIAH STUBBS
All throughout our American society people are puzzled at the high level of racism, social unrest, crime and defiance
that has swept over our nation. These social evils did not just appear out of nowhere. They gradually evolved within and throughout our society through the freedom of speech and expression by uncontrolled citizens, who were allowed without restrictions, to express, influence, and perpetuate some sort of evil within our society under the First Amendment. Did the founders of the U.S. Constitution mean to allow citizens the right to influence and spread evil amoungst our society? I doubt it. Yet, this is what has happened to our nation. Unfortunately, our political entity have neglected to deal with the moral verus the immoral nature that is inherent within our free speech and expressions. Through examining our National Anthem and Pledge Allegiance, it is clear that we stand for liberty and justice for all. Liberty and Justice implies that morality and peace be afforded to all citizens and human beings within confines of our land. Without liberty, justice or peace; opposition, defiance and war is inevitable. Because we all want liberty, justice, and peace in pursuit of happiness, anything that oppose these factors should be eliminated from our society. This brings us back to the First Amendment. For example, when one is allowed to write a book on hatred and war, that person has over-stepped his boundaries as allowed under the First amendment. That is because the nature that is inherent within such literature is evil, and have the capacity to captivate and influence others to hate and to destroy. Why should such conduct be allowed under our Constitution? Likewise, the movie industry, who are prone to illustrate perpetual and violent portrayals within the minds of the masses are guilty of influencing evil within and amongst our society. Every evil, violent or destructive portrayal that has ever been shown in any movie has been immitated by others within our society as a result. Movies like "Scar Face," "New Jack City,""The Mack," and thousands of others have all caused thousands of lives to be lost because of a producer''s right of expression under the First Amendment. When is enough enough? Likewise, in the music industry, the First Amendment has allowed criminals and thugs to be portrayed as role models and heroes in the eyes of the young, ignorant, and vulnerable through meaningless and destructive rap music. Moreover, hate and militia groups are allowed to protest, march, congregate and tie up public facilities for no good or constructive cause at all under the First Amendment. And this is at the tax payers expense, while nothing productive or worthy to our society has resulted from this segment. Freedom of Speech has simply become Freedom of Right to Influence Evil amoungst our society.  Anytime a person''s speech or expression amounts to some form destruction, or may have the potential to threaten the orderly running of our society; such freedom has infringed upon the moral fabric of our nation. Our political infrastructure must awaken and place restrictions on the moral versus the immoral nature of speech and expression as allowed under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
