Constitutional Assembly In Nepal

Book Abstract by: Ranjeev

Original Author: Ranjeev shrestha
After suffering from a decade-long armed conflict in the country, the revolution brought political changes in Nepal in the
first quarter of 2006 which is heading towards the Federal Democratic Republican status. The constitution assembly (CA) which is planned to hold in 15th June 2008 is going to decide the fate of Nepal and Nepalese so it is very much critical and at the same time crucial on the Nepali perspective where nation in all spheres are in dubious condition. The CA is going to held in order to draft a new constitution that will include the structure of the country’s government, outline the power and limitations of the government and ensure the fundamental rights of the people. And at the same time it is going to decided whether king‘s presence will be accepted or not in political sphere.
Constitutional assembly is the assembly of those person elected by people especially to draft new constitution. The mode of constitutional assembly polls is very much similar to general election except the elected representative would represent the people in drafting the new constitution rather than representing people in parliament. In CA poll voter have to put sign (Nazi sign) in two different papers and put into two different boxes. The blue color election paper represents the candidate and red one represents the party. The voter has right to choose their party and candidate in the CA polls.
As the CA election does not come time and again like other election, each and every voter should understand the importance of the CA polls. But due to a lack of awareness among the Nepalese voters, they might be cheated, misled and given false assurance by cunning people posing politicians. So, it is very urgent and a must to educate the people about the structure and importance of CA polls. They must be made aware and educated about their rights and responsibilities.
