Prison warders in the Naivasha Gk prison were forced to fire at over seven hundred death row inmates as chaos
broke out in the penal institution on a Friday night .Screams ,alarms and ad bullets rang out in the institution as fear gripped the lake side town .
A heavy security cordon was thrown around the maximum security prison as fears that hardcore criminals could break out .The leader o0f the dreaded Mungiki movement in Kenya is also being held here .The drama took up to five hours. Wardens who had downed their tools of work in demand for their grievances to be looked in to first, responded fast and moved in to quell the unrest.
Trouble started when the inmates from block B refused to enter in to their cells in the evening alleging that they were in support of the striking wardens .But things got out of hand when the inmates switched off the light throwing the institution in to a thick darkness. It was then that the wardens had to open fire on to the group as screams rent the air with traders in the town closing down their businesses.
The officer in-charge of the prison said that they used rubber bullets against the inmates and he added that it was pure madness f4rom the inmates and the officers responded well and managed to put things back in to order .The officer in charges name is Patrick Mwenda.
It was further said that three inmates had earlier died from taking contaminated illicit brew while five of them survived and were healing slowly in hospital .They were under fluids.
