The voters in Karnataka State have clearly indicated that the
vote bank politics of the Congress Party no longer pay it dividends. In the name of secularism, the party often speaks of communal politics of the BJP with a view to create a sense of insecurity among the minority communities and garner their votes. The minorities in India despite all the tall promises remain socially and financially the weakest in the Indian society proving that nothing real has been done for their welfare. They realised the emptiness of the promises and voted on the merits of the candidates. BJP has a far more cleaner image as a party less prone to corruption. People also relied on the performance of Modi Government in Gujarat which made that state number one in development. If Congress party wants to be relevant, it has to give up the
BJP bashing which is proving counter productive. It has to launch a war on corruption and weed out the corrupt from the party to salvage its image. It has to have programs that really benefit the poor and weaker sections to claim its rightful place. It is a pity that by relying on Nehru dynasty Charisma, it downplayed the role of the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who got the cleanest record on par with Lal Bahadur Sastry. The party is behaving as though Dr. Manmohan Singh is the wrong choice for the post of Prime Minister and continues to play the dynasty tune which is damaging the party.
