Lord Trimble and Paying Up - Bbc Radio 2

Article Summary by: SM THOMPSON

Original Author: SM Thompson
Saturday morning finds me about to enjoy a relaxing morning and I was tuned into ... Sounds of the Sixites which is a programme
that talks constantly about the world famous "Beatles" and those other rock stars who are contained within that Label!   Its informative and often they play tapes which I have never heard before mostly of conversational anecdotes by the Fab Four!
However, the music was interrupted by the News on BBC Radio 2 and Lord David Trimble was broadcasting yet again on the Northern Ireland Period of Terrorism known as The Troubles and how the UK Government were finally paying up for victims of that period of troubled history in Northern Ireland.
The sum quoted was in the region of £12,000. to be given by HM Government in the UK to victims of the troubles ... I am sure it will be a great financial help to get the money even though it may be late in coming.
The notion of identifying famous men has not been my forte until recently and I was in conversation with a Police Officer about the Middle East  here in Southampton - and during the course of our conversation ...... he name dropped "Paddy Ashdown"  who now apparently is known as Lord Paddy Ashdown and sits in the House of Lords ... Westminister Parliament.   So it struck a chord of recognition because also the former David Trimble is now Lord David Trimble and like his counterpart Lord Ashdown also sits in the House of Lords ..... didnt they do well!  Nice work ...
