Is there no man or woman born in India who is emotionally one with the ethos and culture of this great land who can lead this country? Why should a foreigner be at the helm of this poor country’s affairs? Is it not a belittling fact?
During my interaction with the white community over the years in many countries, I have felt many of them nourish a deep rooted ‘looking down upon attitude’ to the colored, the South Asians especially. This lady, Sonia, may be feeling in the innermost recesses of her heart ‘these poor stupid Indians.’ But the façade of her face is a perfect mask for everything. She does not show any emotion any time. She just conceals her true feelings.
But here is the big question: Is there no worthy Indian born in this great land which can lead its sons and daughters? How can a foreigner, that too a white rich aristocratic lady, understand the pulse and the feelings of the millions of the poor men and women? How can she identify with the masses who are living in the squalid slums without sanitation and or without a meal a day?
Her psyche could be that of the colonialists of yesteryear.
Let her enjoy the position of the ‘bahu’ of a Prime Ministerial House. Let her enjoy the wealth of the Nehru-Gandhi family. Let her also get the fame and adulation accorded to a Nehru family member. But I cannot think about her ruling India. This is humiliating Indians. It proclaims the impotency of the 1.2 billion Indians to find a native soul to lead the nation!
