In 1824, a particularly bitter
election between Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay was thrown to the House of Representatives to decide. Adams was ultimately elected after being supported by Henry Clay. In return, the
president-elect appointed Clay Secretary of State. Meanwhile Senator Jackson, having won the most popular and electoral votes, denounced the election result as a "
corrupt bargain." He summarily resigned from the Senate and launched a viciously divisive campaign to put himself in the White House after the next election.
As a result, the modern Democratic
Party was born in Nashville, TN under the banner of "
Manifest Destiny," a concept associated with the unconditional territorial expansion of
slavery and the firm belief that the entire North American continent was predestined by God to be controlled by the new world descendants of white European males. With his new nationalist organization, Old Hickory handily defeated President Adams, an abolitionist in 1828.
Jackson then set out to implement his agenda, which included closing the Bank of the United States , breaking the country’s treaties with the Cherokee Indians that resulted in “
The Trail of Tears” and appointing pro-slavery justices to the Supreme Court. One of his protégés, Roger B. Taney presided over the Dred Scott Decision. Taney stated that because Scott was black, he was not a citizen and therefore had no rights.
Soon after Jackson took office, Henry Clay founded the Whig Party. But, the Whigs only existed to oppose Jackson and once another Jackson pupil, President James K. Polk left office in 1849, the Whig Party essentially stood for nothing of substance and therefore sustained little reason to exist.
The present day Republican Party was created with the understanding that if you were a Democrat, you were obviously pro-slavery. However, if you were a Whig, it was necessary to clarify your position on the subject. Republicans left no doubt that they were opposed to slavery and passionately worked to abolish the great contradiction to our Constitution. In 1861, Abraham Lincoln became our nation’s first Republican president.
In 1920, women won the right to vote by way of a Constitutional amendment. Although President Woodrow Wilson was a Democrat, his party did not support Women’s Suffrage. State after state, the Republicans supported the women’s right to vote, while the Democrats fought the notion until the bitter end. Tennessee became known as the “
Perfect 36” because when the Republicans defeated the Democrat majority in Nashville , the 19th Amendment was ratified for the entire country.
As soon as Democrat President Harry Truman tried to integrate the US armed forces after WWII, half of his party left him and became the infamous “
Dixiecrats.” When the “
Great Society” programs of the mid 1960’s passed during Lyndon B. Johnson’s presidency, it was not because of Democrat Party support, as more than half of his party opposed him while over 80% of the Republicans embraced the legislation.
Also, it is important to note that none of those shocking pictures we have all seen of Blacks being hosed and beaten in the streets during that time were produced by the actions of Republican administrations, they were Southern Democrats. I am still amazed that 92% of the Blacks who voted in the 2000 election voted for the representative of the party of “
Manifest Destiny.”
Now, in the midst of a war we did not start, as we fight to free our future from the horrific terror of Islamic Fascism, the party that undermined our President every step of the way, endangered our troops and embolden our enemies to believe they have support in the US, has managed to win a majority in the US Congress.
Consequently, the bad news is that Islamic Fascist have won the war on terror at the American ballot box. What good news can befound in all of this, is that East Tennessee did not help them. So, the next time you hear someone call a Republican a Fascist, please remind them that Adolph Hitler’s party was the National Socialist Party. You see, Fascism occurs when the government takes over the people and then someone takes over the government. Unfortunately, we are now half way there.
