Lately I''ve been wondering how can we have a "War on Terror" when the dictionary defines "terror" as a feeling. I''ve also
been thinking that in such a war, there really is no enemy that can be clearly identified as it is difficult to ascertain just who is who. But as long as our country has declared "War On Terror", I believe the following should be included in the fight. You see, I Believe the real terror is:
thousands of people going ungry every day and nigh
families living in neighborhoods living in fear that the next drive by shooter will claim on of their loved ones
Single mothers living from pay check to pay check in abject poverty struggling to provide for their children
thousands of homeless inludinc children and many veterans from past wars.
thousands of adoloscents who drop out of high school because our educational system has failed to meet their needs and frustrated them
drug houses and drug dealers who falsely promise immediate gratification
thousands of unemployed
thousands of elderly who are forced to decide between eating and obtainig prescritions needed
thousands who are without health care;
and thousands who cannot affort the mental health care they need
In this country it seems right now our priorities are a little skewed. Why do politicians get paid so much when they seemingly represent the wishes of the rich lobbyists and the interests of the top 1/3rd wealthies people in thenation? Why does the baseball player, basketball player, football player, soccer player
receive million dollar contracts when our teachers, nurses, policement, firemen get so muchless? Why do actors receive millions of dollars when heads of households stress over not being able to afford groceries for their families? When did our country transition fromn a democracy to a capitalistic society where the value is on material possions and the motto "ALL aBOUT mE"rings true?
Isn''t it time that we unite together to fight a real war on the real terrors that threaten to destroy us all?
