             The President of India, as the head
of the Indian Federation, occupies a very special place in the system in India. Not only because of his high position, but also due to his own personality, character, high excellence & record of service, the President influences national life in various ways. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first President and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is the present President. In all there have been 14 Presidents, elected or acting, so far. In its 15 chapters, the book covers transfer of power, Independent India 1947, Presidency in India, life profiles of the Presidents (except the present President) & then, brief details regarding the Vice-Presidents, P.M.’s and Deputy P.M.’s of India are given in 3 appendices. Chapter 1 provides brief details of the transfer of power on Aug 15, 1947, the Indian constituent assembly & Indian Independence Act 1947. Chapter 2 recounts the events just after the independence of India, with appointment of Lord Mountbatten as the first Governor-General of India, followed by Mr. C. Rajagopalachary from 21.6.1948 to 26.1.1950, proclamation about birth of Republic of India, address by the first President of India & first General election in 1952.
            Chapter 3 discusses various aspects of the Presidency in India, esp. with respect to certain articles & amendments of the Indian Constitution. It also gives value of votes of MLA’s of different states, Chronology of the Presidents of India, & the margin of their victory in the elections. Chapter 4 gives the details of political life, family life & achievements etc. of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, from beginning to end. The subsequent Chapters provide similar relevant details for other Presidents. Photographs of swearing-in of the first President, & that of the first P.M., have been provided, besides two small photos of the first President, & that of Mr. K. R. Narayanan. It is desirable that all persons, esp. young persons should go through this book, & learn there from, for their eventual benefit. This work is useful for academicians, students & the laymen.
