There are good people in every political party. The democrats are not always right, and the republicans are not always wrong. Labeling one either party should not detemine he or she to be to be the ideal candidate. Yet in so many states voters select party lines with a single vote.
The method saves reading names or figuring out if a person is fit for office. It spares the registered elector from having to see the forest for the trees. Just as there may be sick trees in the forest, there are unqualified
candidates for election or re-election. So what possesses one to merly concede the entire
roster is prepared for office?
There are several factors to consider. Demographics play a major role. For example, the state of Massachusetts is primarily a
democratic voting state. Few republicans have seen success in
elections there. The opposite applies just over the border inNew Hampshire. Why is it two states so near each other have so opposing view ponts?
We could discuss whether a state is red or blue for hours. The fact remains not everyone under a particular party roster is qualified. U. S. Senator Joseph Leiberman from Connecticut not that ago declared himself an Independent. It shocked his fellow party members. He was reelected under the
Independent monker. He would have lost if all those staunch democrats clicked the top box.
This piece is not to say one party is better than another. It should the right of the voter to choose whoever he or she wishes. By placing the all for one box atop the ballot it gives the uneducated voter an out. It relieves them of having to learn anything about any of the several candidates and their views. Independents are persons with both democratic and republican viewpoints.
For those desiring to stay the course and not find out about opposing candidates, so be it. Nothing written here or any place else with alter their thinking. As to the rest, taking the time to read and find answers may prove good for one's intellectual health and our country's too.
