CBI arrests Suresh Kalmadi in CWG Scam
Suresh Kalmadi should have been in the CBI custody much earlier, which has happened today, the 25th April, 2011. Why only Suresh Kalmad, there are many other politicians against whom the investigation must be carried out. Now that Kalmadi is arrested, we hope he will spill the beans through which more arrests would be made. The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested the former Congress MP from Pune and the former chairman of the CWG organizing committee on charges under section 120 B and 420 that is criminal conspiracy and cheating. The specific charge against Kalmadi has come from the Commonwealth Games Time Scoring Equipment scam. He along with his associate V K Verma awarded the Time Scoring Equipment contract to a Swiss firm arbitrarily. Today was the third instance of questioning Kalmadi by the CBI on the issue of irregularities in the conduct of Queen’s Baton Relay organized in London in 2009.
We can recollect that Kalmadi was sacked from the chairmanship of the CWG organizing committee on charges of corruption. There is no doubt in any mind of this country that many a person associated with the CWG made huge money through corruption. Kalmadi being the head of the organizing committee kept his eyes closed on corrupt people for the obvious reason that he was made the maximum beneficiary of the corrupt money.
Kalmadi will now face the tough grilling of the CBI sleuths in presence of Swiss firm’s Indian representative the Gem International, which arranged the kickbacks, it is presumed.
