2G spectrum scam: CBI gets an SC thrashing for tardy probe
Now and then we find various High Courts and also the Supreme Court bang on the government investigation agencies for sluggish approach in matters of investigations. After that what happens is another big question. Leaving aside the after effect, the investigation in the first place is not given much importance and for that the investigators must be accountable, not just the verbal reprimand by the courts. All investigations for that matter are intricate and time consuming, yet if a time frame is not set considering the nature of the investigation, then it is obvious the people responsible for the investigation would do injustice in their duties because of political pressure from the appropriate corner.
The 2G spectrum scam is huge if we believe the news reports of the past. The name that has cropped up in this scam is A Raja the \then telecom minister and unfortunately he is holding the same portfolio, courtesy the corrupt UPA government.
Reaching nowhere in the last one year in regards to investigation in this case, an NGO filed a petition in the Supreme Court and in the hearing of the same the Additional Solicitor General Haren Raval had nothing important to say against the NGO contention other than the parroting words like complexity, enormity, voluminous documents etc. The Judges of SC G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly did what they could the best within the parameters of the law. They clearly said to Raval, ‘You are dragging your feet’. When hearing this Raval wanted to make his earlier words true, the Judges fumed once again and asked Raval, ‘Will it take another ten years?’ the ASG then said the investigation would be completed within the next six months.
Since the Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam was not present in the court, the court did not take a final count of the day’s procedure and adjourned the court for the day saying that on November 15, the date of the next hearing; it would like to have some questions answer by the Solicitor General himself
