Dawood threat to CBI over 2G probe?
2G spectrum allocation scam is getting entangled with threats from outside India. The threat charge is against the notorious Indian born underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, allegedly living in Pakistan under the security of Pakistan authorities. The D-gang wants to destroy the documents related to the probe of the said scam that are kept in the CBI Headquarters in Delhi. The information first received by the CBI office, Mumbai and it has passed on the same to its main office in Delhi. If the news is true then we can think that the D-company is also a beneficiary of the money collected through corrupt means by the former telecom minister A Raja and his associates. We can recall that one real estate businessman Shahid Usman Balwa has been linked with Dawood Ibrahim. Balwa is now in CBI custody for intensive interrogation on the subject matter, as his telecom company Swan is in the probe list for bribing the minister and others to obtain telecom license.
First it was the Prime Minister and his other colleagues tried to defend A Raja on the telecom scam. The PM Manmohan Singh could not control Raja in 2007-08 or did not want to control Raja is yet to be known. In spite of complaints against him, the same PM in the next cabinet handed over the telecom port-folio to Raja again amidst protest of the opposition. It was CAG report that made the PM take action against Raja and removed him from his chair. The new Telecom minister Kapil Sibal too tried to safe guard Raja indirectly but in vain. Raja’s boss the DMK party chief Karunanidhi backed his trusted lieutenant Raja vehemently, but all efforts failed under the pressure of the combined opposition, media, and the public and the Supreme Court had to take firm stand on this. Now the CBI is investigation the case under the direct supervision of the SC.
The threat from Dawood must be crushed with all power of the government, otherwise the corrupt people, especially the politicians would take this route to get rid of their corruption accusations.
