Old Enough to Vote, Serve in the Military ... And Drink?

Article Review by: ModernDayDaddy

Original Author: Jacque Wilson
If you can join the armed forces, you should not be able to legally drink.
I'm a dad with a 2-year old daughter, and can say that. This isn't anywhere near a debate. If I had to choose, I'd trust an 18-year old with a gun, before I'd trust the same kid, with a Jack -n- Coke and car keys! At least with a bullet:

  1. I know where it's going to go

  2. I know the amount of damage it's going to do

  3. I know it's a deadly weapon before I see it

Whom ever is responsible, for raising the question of lowering the drinking age, should do a survey in Texas first. In 2006, Texas rated #1 in alcohol-related crashes. It costs the state $5.5 billion a year, including medical costs, property damage and loss of life.
That's more money than the total estimated 304,583,248 citizens living in the United States! In 2006, an estimated 17,602 people died in alcohol-related traffic crashes—an average of one every 30 minutes. These deaths constitute 41% of the 42,642 total traffic fatalities. Of these, an estimated 13,470 involved a driver with an illegal BAC (.08 or greater) . On average someone is killed by a drunk driver every 39 minutes. Traffic crashes are the number one killer of teens(15-20 year old) and 31% of teen
traffic deaths are alcohol-related. Although young drivers make up a mere 6.4% of the total driving
population in the U.S., they constituted 12.9% of the drivers involved in
fatal crashes in 2006
