Violence against Woman is the threat or use of force that results in or may result in injury or death. It includes
physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and financial abuse or assault by partners, intimates, family members and strangers.
These types of violence may include: rape, harmful cultural practice and tradition, sexual assault, forced foeticide, sexual abuse, domestic violence, pornography, battering, stalking, marital rape, abduction, forced sati, homicide, harassment for dowry, burnt and murdered, torture and exploitation, trafficking in
women and girls and coerced pregnancy.
Health Consequences:
Health consequences of violence against women may include: physical and mental health outcome, injury, depression, unwated pregnancy, fear and anxiety, gynaecological problems (STDs, including HIV/AIDS), low self-esteem, miscarriage, sexual dysfunction, pelvic inflammatory disease, chronc pelvic pain, obsessive-compulsive disorder, headaches, post traumatic stress disorder, permanent disabilities, suicide, and maternal mortalitiy.
