Rapist Thrashed Outside Court
The outrage of public is more powerful than police; this incident has proved once again.
The incident that happened at Dasnagar in Howrah situated near Kolkata, one of the four biggest metro cities in India.
Mukul Sheikh had a fascination on the elder sister of the victim, and he proposed to marry her. But, she discarded his proposal without any second thought. This created a rage inside him that he could not digest easily, and took the opportunity of raping this minor girl. The victim did scream for help while Mukul was committing the crime, but he was able to flee the scene from getting caught by the people gathered there. Police had no difficulty to apprehend the victim because of his known identification, though he was able to be away from the police for three days.
The police arrested him from his ancestral home in Amta, also in Howrah district not far from Dasnagar. While taking him to the court for producing before the magistrate, about 150 women saw it and attacked him in spite of polices’ present. They thrashed him, beat him, and abused him with force. More police were called and culprit was taken into police custody from these angry women finally.
The victim is the youngest sister of five sisters in the family. Their father is mason by profession.
Incident like this is not isolated in a vast country like India. Only a few are reported for the proximity to the city. Most of instances in villages are let go without any punitive action being taken by the authority.
