The
government of India had enacted an Act
for the protection of parents, specially aged, from the unlawful acts of their children. The Maintenance & Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 seems to be working in India.

Kamaljeet Singh of Jalandhar city forced their parents to leave their home and the parents got shelter in their daughter’s house at Amritsar. The matter was brought to the notice of the state
government authorities, and went to court. The advocate General of Punjab, H. S. Mattewal has ordered the son Kamaljeet to give Rs. 10,000 every month to the parents for their monthly expenses. The court further ordered the son to allow his parents to stay in their house without any added trouble. The money is to be deposited every month in the account of his mother Gurcharan Kaur by the son.
India, in spite of being a country of social togetherness, is slowly transforming otherwise. Incidents like this are seen in the media now and then. Parents, when old, lose their physical ability, and become dependence on their children. At that time, if children look the other way, then they have no other place to go than to knock the door of the court. This rule of the government is indeed beneficial for the parents.
