Alipore Zoo director suspended for eight missing monkeys from the zoo.
Animals are poached
for their value in dead than alive. Now live animals are gone missing from the well guarded zoo in Alipore, Kolkata. The news of eight stolen monkeys is indeed funny and callous in nature. How the live monkeys can go missing from the zoo, if the security of the zoo is not hand in glove with the outsiders?
The director of the Zoological Gardens,
Subir Choudhuri, has got the suspension order, and in his place, Raju Das has been placed in addition to his joint director post of Sunderban Biosphere Reserve.
These monkeys are not just the common monkeys that are found in India; these are common Marmosets of Brazilian origin. Out of total 16 monkeys, 8 have been stolen, the news reported. The same species of monkey is there in Mysore zoo only in India.
Though the authorities have not found any evidence against the director Subir Choudhuri yet, but being the man responsible for the well keep of the zoos, he has been suspended. Two guards, who were directly involved in the security of these monkeys were arrested by the police. Ashok Patra, and Shyamsunder Ghosh were produced in the court, and have been sent to the police custody upto 17th August.
It is presumed that the monkeys might find their next destination Bangladesh, and the porous border between India and Bangladesh has been alerted. Two main railway stations, Howrah and Sealdah too have been put under strict vigilance, the report informed.
The matter is taking political color as the Congress and Trinamul Congress workers staged protests inside the Alipore zoo. They accused the authorities of shifting the blame to the private securities.
