Lots of questions! I was a sex offender therapist for 18 years in adult male prisons, so I know a bit about this subject.
Castration doesn''t work, primarily because rape isn''t about sex but about power and control. I definitely think they should be in prison just to protect the public if nothing else. The problem is that there is usually no effective rehabilitation program in most
prisons. Yes, the age of the child or the powerlessness of the victim does come to play in how
dangerous an offender is. But rape is rape no matter what the age, gender, or physical abilities of the victim. Offenders who rape teens are no better than offenders who rape young children or women. They are just different. If the age difference is small, there may be a different dynamic to be considered if the teen gave consent.
The gender of the victim and of the offender doesn''t matter. Most pedophiles are heterosexual even if their victims are boys. Most pedophiles are sexually addicted and will have sex wherever they can get it. I don''t believe in the death penalty for rapists unless they cause the death of the victim. But I also believe that prisons can''t afford decent therapeutic treatment for sexual addiction or pedophilia. And I don''t believe there should be any consideration given to sentencing as to whether the offender was using alcohol or drugd when they committed their crime. There is NO excuse for rape.
