The Importance of 25th April yearly

Book Review by: sylgri

Original Author: Roy Hirsch

ANZAC Day - 25 April - is probably Australia''s most important National occasion. It brings a lot of people together
who begin with the “Dawn service” with numerous head attending to the service.
As being a big National day of mourning it starts off at 4.30 when they have a service at the Shrine of Rememberance which is attended by some people who travel long distances in order to be at the service and make a comeback to other members who they eventually meet later in the day.
The attendance has been getting more recognition as to this being one of the most important days of the year; has been getting bigger in the atttendance with the young generation beginning to recognise the importance of Anzac Day.
There was a great attendance to the Shrine by students, who took part in a service which was being attended by numerous Government representatives and schools from numerous places in Victroria and by others at the Shrine of Remembrance.
It was beautiful to see an increase in attendance at the service on Tuesday 24th April which had an enromous attendance by students from all over Victoria with flowers being laid out in the front of the Shrine.
On Wednesday 25th April there was an enormous attendance at the Shrine of Remembrance with there was a representation of those whose Father, Grandfathersm Aunties, Grannies.
It was wonderful seeing such an enormous attendance and it made me feel much happier that the young generation have begun to see the importance ANZAC day plays in our lives.
When the dawn service ended there was a breakfast being provided by the organisers wnd it enabled some members to catch up on things and get ready for the Parade to begin at 9.00 am.
The meaning of the word ANZAC means Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, which was set up after the first World War in 1914 and increased by the 2nd World War & then Vietman.
Attendance took part in overseas countreies one of them being imn Vietman where they had a service commemmorating the ANZAC services as well as in Gallipoli.
At the end of the March everyone goes their way and in numerous gatherings congregate and go to have a beer and in some instances they play a two up game.
The attendance on Tuesday
Why is this day so special to Australians?
When War broke out in 1914 Australia which was a member of the Commonwealth made it a duty for Australia to being involved in this Warfare as a means of supporting the other nations.
Aostralia which was a young nation at this time was in establishing herself with other member countries of the Commonwealth; that got Australia to liaising with New Zealand which was closeby and became part of ANZAC.
The new National Government was eager to establish its reputation among the nations of the World.
In 1915 Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the Allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula, to open the way to the Black Sea for the Allied Naval Forces from all nations involved in the War.
The plan was to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul), which has been regarded as the capital of the Ottoman Empire and an ally of Germany.
They landed at Gallipoli on 25 April, meeting fierce resistance from the Turkish defenders. What had been planned as a bold stroke to knock Turkey out of the War quickly became a stalemate, and the campaign dragged on for eight months.
At the end of of the Warfare in 1915 the Forces were evacuated after both sides had suffered heavy casualties and endured great hardships.
Over 8,000 Australian soldiers were killed who were buried in Gallipoli with a commemoration to make a profound impact on the Australians at home by remembering those who had died in the War; that took place on 25th April 1915 and has been followed on since.
Since then the Australians overall have become more recognition of those who died for us in both World Wars as well as Vietnam
ough the Gallipoli campaign failed in its military objectives of capturing Constantinople and knocking Turkey out of the War, the Australian and New Zealand troops'' actions during the campaign bequeathed an intangible but powerful legacy. The creation of what became known as an "Anzac legend" became an important part of the National identity of both nations. This shaped the ways they viewed both their past and their future.
Early commemorations
The beauty of ANZAC Day is it brings a lot of former members who served our nation in the Army, Navy and Air Force from as far back as possible, where in 2007 there was 1 person from the first world war, and he was the last one to this day.
It is a wonderful thing to see the old generation getting assistance in order to be able to be there and its wonderful to see the closeness Society has built up with an increased and upward coming attendance recors.
The increased attendance show the young generation recognising this as an important step in their livelihood towards their later years.
The closeness can be felt in certain ways which make the attendance as having been a memorable day and will be cherished in the future.
The TV networks made a wonderful notion to televise the parad
