It was a sad day for the United States as a little more than an hour ago, a bill that would have provided health insurance
for over ten million children failed in the House of Representatives. Ignoring a vowed veto from
President Bush today the House seemed to be very short on republican votes. The vote was only seven votes short of the required two-thirds by Federal Law for a bill to become law.
The house said the bill had the support of the American people, but the Republican minority leader John A. Bonner of Ohio condemned the bill saying “window-dressing rather than substantive changes.”
As the battle raged on the political front came up with several new ideas for bills scheduled to be proposed next year. However the bill would have made two million people lose insurance and the would be forced to be on the
government funded program.
But here’s how I see it the bill would have still have had eight million people get insurance many of them needing life-saving medical treatments –and need it now. Why did the president veto the bill, why did the republican’s support the president? Why are the American people being cheated on health insurance now? If the federal government can’t solve this growing problem soon then the states will.
