 ABSTRACT

The substance reveals on the trend of politics practiced among different parties of America. Thus, it articulates on the nature and function of political parties, its role and contribution in the governance of the country. In fact, the political parties are not the mere entities.
Those are the reflections of the aspiration of the people and the society as well. Actually, the rise of political parties is one of the dominant characteristics of modern democracy. Correspondingly, the role of political parties is significant in developing the American democracy.  The distinguishing features of American political parties are: 1.Political socialization by disseminating particular political values into the public, 2.Accumulation of political power by congregating political individuals and groups,3.Force for unification; though the state is geographically  fragmented, the two main political parties do unification in government by means of similar traditions, interests, symbols and issues,4.Recruitment of political leadership; because, the election system enables the parties to the change of political leadership. It is of unanimous view that the success of political parties depends on the public confidence. Henceforth, they represent the greater interests of the society. So, from a broader point of view, it is considered that political party does work as an organization. They design and conduct their activities to protect and manifest the interest of the people. As political parties are invested with the responsibility to preserve the interests of the people, so to oversee the welfare of the people, it arranges and conducts election with a view to best serving the interests of the people. For election is the pre-condition in every democratic state, likewise in America after holding election the parties form parliament and ultimately the Government. Being in power, the political parties initiate their development activities.

The recent development of political parties has been given special emphasis. The development has been reflected on the following grounds: ideological change in political issues and principles, more participation of citizen in the governance of the country, development of individualism, and rise of reformist approach.
