The Public Defender of Georgia Sozar Subari is concerned by the fact that after severe break-up of November 7 terror and
persecution of the citizens, having opinion different from government continues; persecution of the representatives of opposition parties, activists of civil society and simply people participating in actions continues.
The Public Defender’s Office studies a lot of cases reflecting the facts of persecution since November 7.
The Public Defender applies with recommendation to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the Prosecutor General of Georgia to study, as soon as possible, the mentioned facts and provide the relevant legal response. But the Public Defender doesn’t hope that these facts will be investigated objectively and therefore applies to the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Nino Burjanadze to ensure that persecution due to different political opinions and terror against citizens stops immediately.
Besides, the Public Defender applies to the representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia and international organizations defending human rights to call Georgian Government to stop persecution of people because of different opinion.
At the same time, the Public Defender of Georgia appeals to Georgian Government to immediately restore the activities of radio and TV companies, broadcasting of which was illegally terminated, such as: radio and TV Company “Imedi”, TV Company “Caucasia”, TV Company “25th Channel” (Batumi).
