Possibly the most boring topic of conversation with a Police Woman is on the subject of the British accent ... as I reminded my pals I got rid of the accent hang up at 10 years of age and was voted in Writer of the Year 1955.
In terms of accent I dont think I am ever going to like it when someone comments on my accent since I am not an Aunt Sally nor am I there to bang into night and day ... find some other stooge to bang into and comment upon ........ also I dislike personal remarks and to me its a lot like abuse in the classroom. Years ago certain practice was taboo in the profession and you could just about kill the teacher and it meant nothing as long as little Johnney was alright .. I'm alright Jack and dont forget to close the door on your way out! Was the turn of phrase which most teachers had to tolerate .... I dont like cheeky personal remarks and I tend to remind the person doling them out nor am I paid to listen to them unlike my time in the profession. Still, I do get the odd compliment every now and then . such as
Poet of the Year Award in America ... so I am not in the dog house at present nor do I choose to be!
Accent down here in Southern England is an obsession and I did hear of a group who only like Roger Moore's accent and listen to it often but then the accent belongs to Roger Moore not his fans or listeners .. and isnt he an 80 something ... so its an old man talking that you enjoy. I enjoy Al Pacino .. but then I like his acting also .... best foot forward and use your Sunday voice . nice work! Even the Turks dislike the Duchess of York and her accent so there you are ... its acting and drama which win and fortunately the theatre of life never retires so as a theatre writer neither will I ...
