If you look at the politics of the Indian Sub Continent, one thing you will find the most common thing between India &
its neighbour Pakistan is the dynastic rule that bagan cementing its roots post their independendence ( so so called partition ). The Gandhis, though very skillfully, manipulated thier ways into the centre of Indian
politics either by change of surnames to suit and hang on to the Gandhi name ( which has no blood relation with Mahatma Gandhi ). Where as in Pakistan, the Bhuttos are the true
heir apparent of the politics of the nation.
However, what is common between these two
families are their relentless obsession in hanging onto the power. Both have made utmost care not to develop ( rather call it removed obstacles ) an alternate leaders who could lead the party in their absense. A lot of young and promising leaders including the rebelious family members were wiped out so that the string of power can be kept within the family. The same way the families have also suffered by loosing its members to either terrorist attacks or to dictators. The time will tell how long these dynasties will continue to rule the contries. Though the future of the Gandhis in India seems promising, the same for the Bhuttos in Pakistan looks bleak for the moment.
