MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting will nominate himself for any Cabinet position following the party''s performance in
this general election. He said that he prefer to dedicate his time and energy to rebuilding and reforming the party(MCA). MCA has been given 4 portfolios to hold in the Cabinet which is Housing & Local Government, Transport, Human Resources and Health.
Besides that,MIC President S Samy Vellu today said he would not be offering himself for a cabinet post in the new administration to be established by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi also.Speaking to reporters today, Samy Vellu said that he would not be seeking a senatorship as a back way for him to return to the cabinet.He added that he wanted to concentrate on party matters, trying to strengthen the party and recouping the lost trust among the Indian community.
MCA & MIC had suffered a humiliating blow in the recently concluded general election with many of its representative suffering heavy defeats in the midst of a swing among the voters which resulted in unprecedented number of wins for the opposition parties.
MCA only won 15 of the 40 parliamentary seats and 31 of the 90 state seats it contested in the elections, while MIC which contested in 9 parliament seats and 19 state seats, managed to win only three Parliament and six state seats.
