The Curse of Civil Rights

Article Abstract by: Tony El

Original Author: Tonio El

Current U. S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas
said, “ Government cannot make us equal; it can only
recognize,
respect, and protect us as equal before the law.”  The Civil Rights Era established and granted
the US government authority to create an environment of equality amongst groups
of people’s based on identity and persuasion, not based on individual’s
character and ability.  What the recent brew-ha-ha, over the comments by a relatively unknown
radio entertainer, Don Imus of a couple of months ago, blasted another
spotlight of the great disaster that has come about by the government’s attempt
to impose equality by making one group a “protected class” - never to have a
harsh word or derogatory comments aimed at it, no matter the intent.    This
very attempt went so far against the principles of a free society, based on
common sense; it was created to implode in on itself.
The other event the escalated the inferno regarding race was
the airing of Roots in the 1970’s.   This
cemented in the conscious of Negro Americans victimization and entitlement and
the conscious of Caucasian Americans guilt.
In the absence of any true and open dialogue to resolve the fundamental
issue of the mistrust and hatred amongst the so-called races in the country it
could only lead to more dysfunction.  The
negative causation of the Civil Rights Era is evident today with the paralyzing
reaction to the invasion of illegal immigrants, particularly from Mexico.
The main tool used by the defenders of the presence of the illegal
immigrants is any hint of discrimination based on skin color and or
ethnicity.  They have flipped the argument
from one of the presence of the illegal intruder and the negative effects he is
causing to what the color or ethnicity he is.
No longer can we defend ourselves simply based on a position of right and
wrong, whether someone’s character and actions is detrimental to us.  The judging of people based on group affiliation,
ethnic persuasion, gender, or age shields the individual from responsibility
and restrains him from total freedom to be recognized for achieving his goals.
“The Curse of the
Civil Rights Era” looks to examine, maybe not answer, the after effects of
the Era and one of many consequences of governments attempt at social
engineering. Teddy Roosevelt  prophetically stated, "The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin,
of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be
to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities."
