Raghuvendra Rathore was born in Jodhpur in Rajasthan. Rathore was trained in designing at Parsons School of designing in New York. This gave Raghuvendra Rathore an international bent of mind along with the traditional upbringing that he had had. This can be viewed in his collections which are modern and contemporary yet showcase the traditional craftsmanship and essence of Rajasthan.
Raghuvendra Rathore’s designs have been appreciated in Indian as well as international market. He has also designed clothes for prominent Hindi film personalities like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. Raghuvendra Rathore himself admits to his collections being one that appeals to the east and the west and hence been designed in the like manner.
In one of the fashion shows, Raghuvendra Rathore displayed bridal trousseau that had vibrant colours and gave the feel of the bygone luxurious Rajasthani dressing of princely states. The essence of the clothes displayed the richness present in the nostalgic Rajasthan weddings of noble women of the olden era. The lehengas were embodied with a lavish use of glittering gold and silver gotta patti. Dabka and zari were used in moderate amount in the lehengas.
In another fashion show, Raghuvendra Rathore’s designer collection had men’s wear which was modern in designs and traditional in look. The collection showcased knits, achkans, Jodhpur jackets, traditional wear, Inde prêt, dungaree, evening wear, rathore shirts and suits. Similarly in women’s wear the collection displayed silk top, tailored jacket set, classic dangari, jacket and shirt, pant and shirt, shirt dress, evening jacket, hand crafted jacket, classic couture, classic jacket, velvet skirt and many more. In yet another fashion show in Delhi the Raghuvendra Rathore collection exhibited summer wear that was cool and comfortable. The clothes had casual and formal designs along with having fabrics like light cotton and chiffons.
The forte of Raghuvendra Rathore’s collections is the Jodhpur Brand Gala jacket, which is a regular length jacket with front buttons and a high collar. This jacket was worn by men ages ago in Rajasthan. This jacket displays the superb craftsmanship of local artisans and consists of a wonderful use of luxurious fabrics along with superb tailoring.
