Ministry of Education statistics reveal each year about 200 cases of poisoning occurred in the food and drinks in school canteens across the country. This means that every school day there are an average of one case of poisoning occurred based on the total day school of approximately 200 days a year.

The number of cases that included only a small number of students involved and not publicized through the media. Many or few students who are victims of a size not to ignore the case and take it as an isolated case.

Indeed, if we look at the percentage of cases, it is very small because the average day is a case of tens of thousands of primary and secondary schools throughout the country. What is certain, the incident can be avoided if the canteen operators to comply with hygiene regulations and controls were fully met.

Ministry of Education has conducted a variety of approaches to solve problems that persist over the years and things can not be seen easily as it involves the safety of students. Despite constantly reprimanded and warned, canteen and school administrators are not aware of hygiene and safety in the cafeteria causes a similar incident recurring.

Starting April 2008, school canteens across the country assessed the hygienic handling and preparation of food according to grades A to D. Grading is used for the purpose of monitoring, evaluation and action in a contract extension.

Action

Accordingly, in view of food poisoning cases involving the supply of food and drinks from school canteens continue to apply, the Ministry of Education has decided to impose measures to close the school cafeteria grade D.

In other words, the direction of the closure will be made even though no cases of poisoning occurred in canteens, as is commonly done before.

The decision was made after a meeting with the Ministry of Health. Steps were taken to ensure that food or drink is served to students not harm their health.

Ministry of Education also decided that the canteen, the canteen got a grade C is directed to increase the level of cleanliness to ensure that students are served food that is clean and wholesome. Canteen hygiene not only involves food and drink, but all cooking utensils.

The attitude of the canteen is not only concerned about the cleanliness conscious care benefits without the student safety.

This situation caused a bit of them feel themselves 'immune' from the action by the school and District Education Offices (DEO) in authority over them directly. This view, usually in a position canteen operator and a relationship with a particular individual, and that was also used as a 'cable' for the cafeteria contract.

In addition to hygiene and handling, food poisoning is caused by the quality of the food itself. Many of the canteen to buy raw materials to provide low-quality drinks, not guaranteed cleanliness and expiration
