Neighbourhood News

Book Review   by:SM THOMPSON     Original Author: University of Southampton
ª

There it is on the mat my copy of "Neighbourhood News" a magazine produced by the University of Southampton
and this edition sports a pic of a Member of the Royal Family - celebrating 60 years of changing the world.
Southampton University observes that IT is proud of achievements and the 6Oth anniversary is a special opportunity to tell the world about the difference IT has made, locally, nationally and internationally.

To officially begin our 6Oth anniversary celebrations, HRH The Earl of Wessex KG GCVO visited the University in March to open the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Plaza on the Highfield Campus. Plus the editor here is keen too stress that there has been another exciting event which is ...the installation of Our New Chancellor
Dame Helen Alexander - she is a darling of the business world as a former chief of the CBI where she had been appointed before this latest venture - President! in 2OO9 to 2O11 ... Well done Dame Helen!

So its onwards and upwards and I am reminded to take a coffee break as Southampton is on a vertical slope and someties getting there is like ski practice however .. let us continue with Revolutionising digital communications and research here at the University of Southampton which has led to development of hardware that laid foundations of internet and pioneered ways of harnessing the power of the world wide web and we are online internationally
as well as locally!

"ON YOUR BIKE" ... refers to surveys on cycling . and there is a pic of a cyclist on his bike ... stay on your bike Mate!

BEST FOOT FORWARD ... refers to a new classroom programme for seven to eleven year olds to encourage children viz pupils to look after their feet and what an excellent project it all is as described herein!

SEACITY MUSEUM: a hub of maritime innovation refers to the new Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute!
Plus lots more goodies such as an invitation to the Open Day Saturday 3O June from 1O 3O am to 4 pm all
welcome!
