Music

Book Review   by:SM THOMPSON     Original Author: SM Thompson

It was steaming in from the Middle East ... via a blog from Yahoo Alerts just as I was about to turn in bang came the email. The Pope likes music and he is celebrating his name day with a private concert of Beethovan symphonies which are conducted by maestro Daniel Barenboim and the musicians are from Arab, Israeli countries and the focus is a concert of peace.

I was so excited as I like Beethovan symphonies and so much so I emailed our local Catholic Church
and enthused about His Holiness Pope Benedict XV1 and the Pope's great celebration of St Benedict day
on the 11th July.

But it struck a cord and I wondered if "music be the food of love" ... play on and immediately the
Medical officer kicked in with : The Play! Nothing but the Play: but then again its snecessary to
clarify here that the good doctor meant my drama my play .... which has now been published in
America and was first performed locally at KES in Southampton England 2OO9: publication
was for everyone concerned including my doctor something of a surprize as it has been
around in different shapes and sizes since 2OOO where it was conceived in Istanbul, Turkey.

Music is a great healer and especially classical music where the audience is invited to listen in,
to tune in and the experts on the BBC Radio 3 programmes fill in the details and some of the
programmes are entertaining and it brings a smile to the face as the broadcasters talk
through the lives of famous composers of classical music or a tear to the eye as some stories
are sad while others are happy.

The need to mention OPERA is again a necessary musical accomplishment of my own though I
must admit I do still enjoy the familiar Italian Opera on the air as I know the music well since
I have been a fan since schooldays! Glad the Pope approves of Music! Hard work pays UP!
