Turkish Poetry Festival to Host Dutch Poetry:

Article Review   by:SM THOMPSON

Welcome back to my new term and I receivd a Welcome sign from my PC and today I read with interest that the
great culture city of Istanbul is playing host as follows:

Istanbul Poetry festival to host Dutch Poetry ...... Hurriyet Daily News:

And the article reads as follows: This week's international Istanbul Poetry Festival will have an orange hue
as the Netherlands have been named the event's special guest - as celebrations marking the 4OO years of diplomatic relations between Turkey and the country.

The Festival starts today and runs till the 15th of September -- and it welcomes leading Dutch oets such as ....
as follows:

Michel, Ester Naomi Perquin and Menno Wigman, plus Dutch Literature critic - Rob Schouten -

and the Festival takes place in Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar Literature Museum Cistein Basilica Pera Museum as well as the Istanbul Culture and Arts Association (IKSV) - will feature also - free activities including poetry events on the City's ferries.

In all, 12 poets from abroad including Bill Herbert from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
who is also an academic from Newcastle ..... and Romanica's Claudin Komartin.

The 4 days festival welcomes Turkish poets such as Sukru Erbas and others

So it sounds like an exciting programme and how I wish I was there but then beggars cannot be chosers and my status is renewed as I stand here and sit where I am a writer in resident with the Southampton City Council
a la the volunteer!

But then we have had a huge influx here from at home and abroad and even Northerners grace our pavements and walk the paths of Southampton to see what goes on here in the South of the country; and there are plenty of
notices about the place to keep the poets from at home and abroad busy;

Let me add, that I have published poems specifically on Southampton since moving here 7 years ago and they are now in 1OO books kept at the British Library in London England ... so I look forward to my invitation as a poet ...
all expenses paid to renew my relationship with Istanbul: Great poets write great verse all over the city of Istanbul!
