The Ennegram is a fascinating summary of personality types. There are 9 personality types that humans fit into and to find out what type you are look up the website – www.9types.com - and complete the easy online test.
Like many people I read my horoscope regularly in either the daily newspaper or a magazine. Why I don’t know because I’m realistic enough to realise that it’s only a general prediction at best and if it does happen to come true, it’s more by accident than design.
I also read the personality traits associated with my star sign with a grain of salt because the traits I’m supposed to possess according to my star sign I definitely don’t. So I’ve come to the conclusion that either my parents got my birth date wrong or you can’t lump everyone born in a four-week period into a single personality group.
A friend suggested I look at the 9 types website and I did it for a bit of fun. I completed the test, had it scored and checked the results with a certain amount of scepticism. What I discovered was an amazingly accurate report of my personality. I am a type 3 and as I read the Ennegram of a type 3 I could say ‘yes, that’s me’ to every one. I also scored highly on type 9 and I have quite a lot of those characteristics too.
So what ‘s the point of all this self-analysis? For one thing knowledge is power. We can learn to enhance the positive aspects of our behaviour and to minimise the negative behaviour. We become aware of our patterns and that very awareness changes them to the best they can be. Change is gradual but it’s sure and steady.
Ennegram can help us relate to others whether it’s friends, family, lover or employee. If you know their Ennegram type it can help you accept their differences as something that is part of them. You can learn to relate to them in ways that will bring out their best qualities and maintain a harmonious relationship.
I found the whole study of the Ennegram interesting. There is much more to read and absorb on the website. As well there are books published on the Ennegram for those who wish to study further.
