Controlled release
asymmetric membrane capsules (AMC) were developed for release of flurbiprofen in order to reduce some
of the problems associated with the drug. The
asymmetric membrane capsules were prepared using fabricated glass mold pins by phase inversion process. The study was optimized using 23 factorial design. Membrane characterization by SEM showed an outer dense region and inner porous region of the prepared asymmetric membrane. DSC studies showed no incompatibility between the drug and the excipients used in the study. In vitro release studies for all the prepared formulations were done and the best
formulation closely corresponded to the extra design check point formulation by having a similarity factor (f2) between 50-100. The drug release was shown not to be affected by pH. The release kinetics followed zero order kinetics.
