Eating Disorders-The cures and strategies There are two eating disorders that strike millions of people across America. They are anorexia and bulimia. Anorexic people can develop this disease early in life, usually in their teens. Psycological problems cause this condition. Severe neglect from one parent may tigger this illness. The person with this disease stops eating and loses his body fat as a result, then he dies from starvation. Bulimia is similar to anorexia, in that the person who suffers from it makes himself vomit after a meal and eventually dies from mal-nourishment rather than starvation. Anyone can get this disease too. It is caused by a constant and troubling idea that you are too fat and you try to lose the weight by throwing up the food you eat. Cures for these two diseases are regular trips to a psychiatric clinic with years of therapy. Some people never get cured. Millions of people die every year from anorexia or bulimia. An experimental drug is liquiid zinc which gets absorbed by the small instestine, but there is no evidence it cures the patient. In conclusion, psycological factors cause eating disorders and there is not a cure except therapy, and some experimental drugs like zinc. Anyone can get anorexia and bulimia. Usually teenagers develop eating disorders but adults can also get them. Sadly, the ratio of who gets these illnesses is not known but it is an estimated million.
