Eltham and surrounds; towards Warrandyte
Today is Saturday 5th April 2003 and it is a beautiful
morning.  I have decided to go towards Eltham and will ride the bicycle through the various bicycle tracks
After a break in Eltham the journey will then go towards Warrandyte and then Ringwood where a visit to a friend of Roys will be made with a short stop and then through various bicycle tracks to Melbourne with the intention of getting home by 7.00 pm.
The journey then began and the first stop was the South Yarra Station to get the train to Melbourne Central, where it was intended to go from there to Flinders Street Station, without realising that the trains to Eltham go through Melbourne Central at that time.
Suddenly I saw Dominic who I didn’t expect to see, as it was the weekend when he is usually off.  Dominic & I had a long chat and Dominic was quite amazed of the wonderful new friend I made on Sunday 30th March when I met Andrew on the way towards Eltham.  Dominic was also impressed of the closeness that grew between us so soon as Dominic noticed the suggestions Andrew made of places that would be good to go to for a “Cycling holiday”, some of them are on the way towards Bendigo.  Some of the names were Woodend Railway Station; Taradale viaduct; Malmsbury viaduct (see of main road Calder); Blackwood Mineral Spring; Maldon (near Castlemaine).
All these places have historical backgrounds and there are numerous buildings that can’t be altered or added before going through the Heritage Trust.
These places have wonderful venues to go for bicycle rides through, with a vast amount of places of interest to help fulfil the time and energy when visiting those places.
Dominic was quite impressed with the intention of going to Eltham and it will be something worthwhile sharing with Dominic when I next see him.  We then said good-bye, and Dominic directed me to platform 1 to board the train to Eltham.
Its now getting to 12.45 pm, and the train should be here in about 6 minutes time; when we get the train towards Eltham, which will be 3 stops before Hurstbridge
The train is about to arrive at 2.22pm over here on the outskirts of Eltham, where there is a wonderful view of Templestowe, Doncaster, Heidelberg, and the City; as the train was going we then came to Bridge Street which goes through to Greensborough.
Here in Eltham the shops are well laid out and there are historical landmarks including the artists region surrounding Eltham.  In Eltham there are a variety of eating houses spread around some of which are reasonable with the prices for the items you get in your meal which makes it work out cheaper than in Melbourne except for a few that are the other way round.  The meal turned out to be very pleasant which made the meal worthwhile in both price and the dish.
It is now 2.45 when Warrandyte is the destination at this stage and it may be altered as time goes by; maybe towards East Ringwood where I would then go to John, I would then see what happens there; over at Ringwood East to get the train back to Melbourne
Its turning out to be a glorious afternoon and should be quite pleasant as going on the bicycle tracks wherever they are; as I find out about the bicycle tracks, they will make it easier next time round alongside the Yarra River.  That is one of the nice things of these parts of Melbourne; where I haven’t been before and have got to like these tracks and the clear air compared to what it is in Melbourne.
It is really glorious and if I had the choice, it would be a wonderful place to move to in the outskirts of Melbourne and move away from the city to the country; so its got everything on the solution to get away from the rat race; so this would be quite a nice area compared to Melbourne; and the people quite different in Eltham than back home.
Well I guess I will get ready for the lunch now and then have the rest put on later on I had just been through nice parks and gardens here in Eltham and going along the bicycle tracks towards Melbourne where this beautiful greenery and nice quietness and fresh air; which makes this a worthwhile place to go for a “bicycles” tour, would be wonderful to see, hear and smell the air, sound of the trees, birds, cars, dogs, and other sounds.
Everything is going nice and smoothly on and off and the distance on the meter is 2770 kilometres; so see what happens towards the latter part of the afternoon/evening.
There is a sound that the birds are making in the bushes going out towards the Yarra; where whilst listening to them with noises they make; I was told by one of the ladies that they are Rosellas; they have quietened down would you believe, its amazing.  The sound was being heard from the tape and it certainly gives a different feeling to what you would feel like in the park, so when you want to make a recording they quieten down you see, unusual; I’ll try and get some more later on.
