Objective To appraise the most appropriate condition of angiogenic effect of Shexiang bao xin wan by using medicated serum. Methods Chorioallantoic membranes(CAM) of chick embryos were used as models, in a 37℃ , 5%CO2 incubator, which were divided into groups of representatives for Shexiang bao xin wan sera made under different conditions and the control group whose sera were obtained from animals without drug feeding. The conditions undertaken included mice feeding days, feeding dosage of the drug and the exsanguinate time after the feeding. Vessel number was used as quantitation of the angiogenic response. Representative responses were studied on day 7 after fixation in methanol and acetone(ratio 1 : 2)for half an hour. Results The CAM vessel number of Shexiang bao xin wan serum group was greater than that of the control group. The most obvious angiogenic response was observed after 4 feeding days, 5 times the animal feeding dosage (as clinical equivalent) and 30 min after feeding. No obvious angiogenic response was observed when the sera were inactivated. Conclusions The best study condition of Shexiang bao xin wan serum was at 4 mice feeding days, 5 times mice feeding dosage (as clinical equivalent) and 30 min after feeding as the exsanguinate time.
