Objective To assess the effect of atorvastatin on angiotensinⅡ(AngⅡ),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and left ventricular
function after acute myocardial infarction in rats.MethodsThirty male Wistar rats with acute myocardial infarction were randomly divided into myocardial infarction control group and atorvastatin treatment group(15 rats in each group). The other 15 Wistar rats were selected as non-infarction controls.Atorvastatin treatment group was delivered by direct gastric gavagebeginning at the 2nd day after myocardial infarction. After 6 weeks, myocardial AngⅡand TNF-α were measured with radioimmunoassay respectively.Every rat was checked by echocardiography including LVEDd,EF and FS.Complete experimental data were obtained in 10,11 and 14 rats respectively in each mentioned above. Results Compared with sham operated rats, myocardial AngⅡ,TNFα and LVEDd were significantly increased(P<0.05),LVEF and FS were significantly reduced(P<0.05)in myocardial infarction control group and atorvastatin treatment group. In contract, compared with myocardial infarction control group, myocardial AngⅡ,TNF-α and LVEDd were significantly decreased(P<0.05),and LVEF and FS were significantly increased(P<0.05)in atorvastatin treatment group. Conclusion Atorvastatin can depress AngⅡand TNF-α expression and may be effective in preventing ventricular remodeling after myocardial infarction in rats.
