AIM: To observe the intervention effect of shutangbao on blood glucose, blood lipid, glucose and urine protein in rats with diabetes.METHODS: ①The experiment was conducted in the Laboratory of Stuff Room of Biochemistry, Youjiang Medical College for Nationalities from October 5th to October 22th 2004. 18 healthy male Wister rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: Model group, treatment group and control group, with 6 rats in each group. ②Rats in the model group and treatment group received intraperitoneal injection of alloxan at a dose of 180 mg/kg in one time. Fasting blood glucose were measured at the 3rd and 7th days of injection. Modeling was made successfully when the blood glucose stablely increased to 15 mmol/L. Rats in the treatment group orally took shutangbao (main components: Acid litchi, grapefruit and guava etc.) after modeling with gastric perfusion of 0.5 mL in each rat, once a day for 10 continuous days. Rats in the model group and normal control group received gastric perfusion of normal saline of the same volume, once a day for 10 continuous days. ③Level of blood glucose was measured with toluidine tracing method, level of triacylglycerol was measured with GPO-POD enzyme method, level of total cholesterol was assayed with COD-CE-PAP enzyme method, level of high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol was assayed with sedimentation, level of urine portein was assayed with biuret method, and level of glucose was assayed with microcide method. ④ Comparison of differences in measurement data was analyzed with analysis of variance. RESULTS: A total of 18 rats were involved in the analysis of results.①Fasting blood glucose: It was significantly higher in the model group before modeling than that in the control group(P < 0.01), and it was significantly lower in the treatment group than that in the control group(P < 0.01); Three days after modeling, it was higher in the model group and treatment group than that in the control group(P < 0.01); At the 3th and 10th day of taking shutangbao, it was significantly higher in the model group and treatment group than that in the control group(P < 0.01), and it was significantly higher in the model group than that in the treatment group(P < 0.
05,0.01). ②Level of serum triacylglycerol: 10 days after taking shutangbao, it was significantly lower in the control group and treatment group than that in the model group(P < 0.01), and it was significantly lower in the control group than that in the treatment group (P < 0.05).③Level of serum total cholesterol: It was significantly higher in the model group and treatment group than that in the control group(P < 0.01), and it was significantly higher in the model group than that in the treatment group(P < 0.05). ④ Level of HDL cholesterol: It was significantly higher in the treatment group than that in the model group and control group(P < 0.01). ⑤ Level of urine protein: At the 7th and 10th day of taking shutangbao, it was significantly lower in the control group than that in the model group(P < 0.01), and it was significantly lower in the model group at the 10th day that than that at the 7th day(P < 0.01) , and significantly higher at the 7th day than before the treatment(P < 0.01), and it was significantly lower in the treatment group than that in the modle group and higher than that in the control group(P < 0.01). ⑥ Level of glucose: It was obviously higher in the model group and treatment group before the treatment and at the 7th and 10th day of taking shutangbao than that in the control group(P < 0.01), and it was obviously lower in the model group before the treatment than that in the treatment group(P < 0.01), and higher at the 10th day than that at the 7th day(P < 0.01), and it was significantly lower at the 7th and 10th day than that before treatment(P < 0.01), and lower that at the 10th day than that at the 7th day.CONCLUSION: ① Shutangbao can reduce the level of blood glucose in rats with diabetes induced by alloxan as well a
