Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of
Five-Ingredient Toxin-Dispersing Beverage(FITDB) on acute nasopharyngitis
experimentally induced by
Staphylococcus aureus infecting among rats. Methods Forty SD rats were included in this study, with 30 prepared as the model of acute nasopharyngitis at first induced by bacteria infecting following mechanic injury to nasopharyngeal mucosa and the other 10 taken as healthy controlling group(HCG).Then, these models were randomly divided into three groups with 10 rats in each,i.e.modeling group(MG),treating group(TG) and positive controlling group(PCG) treated by N.S.,FITDB and ampicillin respectively.Observed during the experimental period were body temperature, white blood cell(WBC) number, behavior changes and histopathology of nasopharyngeal mucosa and followed were a comparative analysis on the differences in these indexes before modeling, after modeling and post-treatment respectively. Results Abnormal changes in behavior were observed following modeling among these rats, with significantly increased WBC number in peripheral blood and acute inflammatory figure in the histopathology of nasopharyngeal mucosa further. In contrast, significantly improved indexes were seen among the animals treated by FITDB,when compared with that of modeling rats(P<0.05),and it showed similar therapeutic effect as that of ampicillin on PCG(P>0.05).Conclusions FITDB holds significant therapeutic effect on experimental acute nasopharyngitis of rats.
