Objective To observe the protective effects of Youshi capsules on the flash electroretinogram(F-ERG) of rabbits under artificial
acute
intraocular hypertension. Methods Eighteen rabbit eyes were used to establish an animal model of acute intraocular hypertension. The rabbit eyes were then randomly divided into 3 groups, each consisting of 6 eyes:a model group,a low dosage group and a high dosage group. These groups were compared to another group of 18 normal eyes. One week before inducing hypertension and 3 days after the models were established,Youshi capsules were irrigated into the stomach. Then intraocular pressure(IOP),FERG b-waves and oscillatory potentials(OPs) were measured during the experiment. Results The amplitudes of the b-waves and the amplitudes and peak latencies of the OPs were recorded just after the model was established and were found to be more or less abnormal due to intraocular hypertension, which were recorded just after the model was established. The average IOP was above 6.83 kPa and was maintained for 3 days.Youshi capsules shortened the prolonged peak latencies of OPs and the recovery of the amplitudes of the b-waves and OPs.Conclusion Youshi capsules might prevent damage and improve the visual function of rabbits that have artificial acute intraocular hypertension.
